List Building (Marketing your eNewsletter)

You probably already know that simply creating an eNewsletter (ezine)  isn’t going to necessarily generate subscribers or grow your list. In order to grow a strong email list you’re going to want to market your ezine.

However, before you market your newsletter consider this. It’s much easier to market a giveaway than it is to market a newsletter. I mean how many people do you know who are going to say, “sure send me some email?” I mean, don’t most of us already have a ton of email already?

However, if you say, “hey, do you want this great book on how to organize your life in just a day” you’re probably going to get a few raised hands and eager nods. People enjoy getting information that can help them. Now it may be the same information you’d offer in your ezine but the difference is there. They want your download or your giveaway. They may not think they want your emails. Of course after they read your report or watch your video they’ll be glad to receive your emails – you’ve proved yourself.

So, instead of marketing your ezine consider marketing your giveaway. Now, how do you do that?

PPC – create keyword specific ads and include a link to your opt in page.

Social networking – publish a link to your ezine on your social networking site of choice. Occasionally include a teaser or a bit of useful information and a link to your opt in page.

Article/content marketing – include a link to your opt in page in your author’s bio box. If you create a viral video, report or ebook include a link to your opt in form there too.

Guest blog/Forums and Chat Rooms – Include a link to your opt in page on your profile or registration.

Email signature. Include a link to your ezine opt in page on your email signature.

Basically, any marketing tactic you’re already using can be used to market your ezine.

To your success!

Having a Unique Voice in the Crowded Online World

Why It’s Important To Have A Unique Voice

In The Crowded Online World of Home Business Professionals

One of the biggest challenges of running your business online is to express yourself uniquely. With so many online business professionals on the web, you don’t want to risk sounding like “everyone else.”

Here are a few pointers that can set you apart from the crowd.

1.         Be yourself.

If you just allow yourself to communicate naturally with your audience – how you would speak with your close family and friends – you’ll already be several steps ahead of the many fake sounding voices online.

Too many people on the Internet have a bad habit of creating content that tries to attract traffic through SEO. That might work for the short-term, but anyone with a brain and a heart can see through information being conveyed to only please the search engines.

Write with passion for your topic, and compassion for your visitors.

Of course, adding video and image content with you narrator and focus makes the relationship more personal than written content on a web page

If you’re sharing content from other sources, do more than just re-post it. Re-write it in your own unique voice, giving credit to your sources as needed.

2.         Have your own opinion.

There’s nothing more refreshing than to see a professional stand up for something he or she believes in firmly. It makes you appear confident and professional, so long as you take a stand in an authoritative way.

Avoid bending your beliefs and experiences to the masses, in order to increase traffic or revenues.

3.         Share personal experiences.

When you share personal experiences with your audience, you allow them to connect with you at a personal level, in a way that no one else can. This can really draw in your particular niche. How much you decide to share with them is up to you, but whatever you do choose to share, should be focused on creating genuine value for your audience rather than for attention and shock appeal.

For example, if you are a fitness promoter and you experienced your own obesity challenge, you can share your struggles and failures, as well as your overcoming.

Or if you struggled financially for quite a while with working from home, but you now are learning the marketing strategies that are increasing traffic to your fan page then share that with your audience.  Someone WILL relate that and when they relate, it keeps them coming back for more.  Put some photos up (if you have them and want to share them) to add a personal aspect to your content.

When your audience feels close to you, and can relate with your experiences as their own, they feel more trustworthy of you.

Your visitors are looking for your help. They’re looking at others for help too. What makes them prefer you is the trust you instill in them, and the credibility you emanate from being original, personal and relatable.

To Like or Not To Like The New Facebook Fan Page Timeline

Are you liking the new Facebook Timeline?  Or are you like most people, you hate change and it’s going to take some time to figure things out and maybe.. just maybe you’ll see the benefits?  Well, I can assure you, I don’t like change that much either, but the more I learn about the new Timeline, the more I like MOST things about the Timeline.

I’ve highlighted some features you must learn about now to get ready for March 30th when Timeline goes live!  There are pros and cons to some.. you can figure out if you like some of the new features or not.

Cover Photo
This replaces the Fan Page banner that was on top of the Page.  It’s large and can be very catchy, however, there are drawbacks.  Facebook is not allowing any graphics or text displaying “ads” of any kind on this cover photo. For example, no “Call to Action” is allowed …  bummer!  And no web address or arrow saying “Like” this page.   Instead, Facebook would like you to Brand yourself and use the cover photo as a site header allowing for a strong presence.

Note: The size for the cover photo is 851 x 315

Profile Picture
This is the small picture on bottom left of cover photo. Same size as thumbnail image which is 180 x 180

About Section
This section is key. Take your time to figure out what you want to say.  Use this section as your “elevator speech” defining who you are and what you offer.  INCLUDE your web link and any other contact info you’d like.

App Section Display   (Facebook is now referring to all apps as tabs).
Let me start by saying that Facebook has taken away the default landing page option.  The Apps are also called Tabs and can be customized to suite your needs.

In this section you can choose three apps to be displayed.  The Picture App will always be displayed so choose an additional three.  As you can see there is an arrow for your fans to scroll to see more apps.

With the apps you can display Likes, Videos, etc, but more importantly you can also display contest winners, specials of the month or whatever you want your fans to see.  Get creative here.  You can customize these tabs or have someone do this for you.

Private Messages
This is really cool. Now you can receive private messages from your fans.  Enough said about this!

Pinned Posts
I LOVE this option.  Using the pinning option will allow the admin to post and keep it visible at the top left of page for 7 days.  Your important posts will no longer be drowned out.   This is fantastic if you have specials, promotions, articles , contests, etc.

To Pin a post you’ll have to hover your mouse over the top right hand corner of the post and the pencil will appear with the options Edit or remove.  Then click the pencil and this will give you the option to pin the post.

So, what do you think about these changes?

Just remember that the “Newsfeed” is still the most important part of Facebook.  Building relationships and your audience due to continued value you offer is what will ultimately get you business.
So continue building your business through networking efforts and ROCK ON!
